« Information as a public good : which platform regulation for a troubled digital era ? »
International symposium jointly organized by the think tank #Leplusimportant, TESaCO and #RadicalxChange, under the aegis of #unesco. It will take place on Tuesday, February 21st, 9 am-6:30 pm, both remotely and at UNESCO headquarters and will be held in English.
This symposium will bring together international experts from leading think tanks from all continents around four roundtables on the following key themes :
1. Benchmarking for insights: what do previous multistakeholder regulatory cases teach us about how to regulate digital platforms for information as a public good?
2. Harnessing virality? Could a regulation of virality accommodate freedom of expression and availability of accurate and reliable information in the public sphere?
3. Empowering users? How could we shape individual and collective empowerment tools to secure freedom of expression and availability of accurate and reliable information in the public
4. ‘UNESCO guidance for regulating digital platforms’: how to secure effective implementation?
In order to provide this last roundtable with fresh insights, we will
run, throughout the day, a speculative design experiment aiming at building a tentative operating model for UNESCO’s Guidance for regulating digital platforms’.
